President 2018/2019
Lions Club of Singapore Clarke Quay
President's Message
Presiding officer President Lena Chen, Chartered President CP John Tan, Past District Governor PDG William Kwok, Lion Dignatories, Distinguished Guests & Friends, Good evening.
First of all, I'd like to thank CP John Tan for having founded the club. We all won't be here today if it's not for him. Thank you also to all Past Presidents and Advisors who have built a wonderful foundation and reputation for our Clarke Quay Club, and we have our very First Lady President Lena Chen, who has served us for 2 years, and brought glory to the club during both her terms. Let us applaud them.
Truly, I'd like to express my gratitude for the chance to serve.
101 years ago, Melvin Jones founded Lions Club International LCI, with his philosophy of life "you can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else," and that also lives in our motto "WE SERVE."
Today, all of us are here as Lions because we want to "Serve", to do good to the society and our communities. For the coming term for CQ, I hope that we will make this our very own motto: just slightly longer... "Humbly, We serve with Love and Joy".
What is Love - love comes from the heart, always wills for the good of the other, and it is not self seeking. We serve with love for the benefit of the community and the society.
Serving with Joy - we're happiest when we are ourselves at our best, contributing in our own unique ways. Some of us may be the head, arms, hands, legs, feet and the heart. As a team, working together bonding well, complementing each other, never needing to compete. Enjoying the camaraderie of serving together as a team to better the community. Remembering that we can do much more as a joyful team than an individual.
Encouraging Active Participation - in our engagement of current projects, we encourage active participation from our members - be it effort, time or money as long as it contributes towards the good of those in need. Our current projects are the Vegetable collection joint project for the needy and elderly that benefit close to 1000 needy, Hair and nail cutting services for the elderly in Clementi and Bukit Merah and visiting the ARC terminally ill children. Other activities include Twin club visits, visiting orphanages with our Twin clubs, Flag day to raise funds for the Lion Befrienders, supporting the Diabetes Society and also World Sight Day. I hope to also see more members leading new projects. We recently just had an Environment beach cleaning joint project involving school students. As Lions are also fun people, we will be getting involved in social leisure activities that interest the members, for the sake of fellowship.
Another area that is important is member recruitment and retainment. Our Past President Ronald Choong, will be taking up the membership director role and will play a crucial role in our club. All Members are also encouraged to do their part to continue to recommend new members who would like to give back to the society and help the needy.
Last but not least, I'd like our club to be governed by proper values; such as Humility, Compassion and Integrity.
I look forward to another fruitful and joyful year ahead! I will do my best to humbly serve with love and joy and with the support from all of you, I believe that we will continue to soar like eagles and roar as Lions.
Thank you all and God bless. Lets give 3 roars!
Tricia Tang, LCSCQ President 2018/2019
